Cheer Minis (Grades 1 and 2)
Overview
  • Introductory program for 1st and 2nd graders
  • Learn sideline cheers, motions, basic, tumbling (cartwheel and forward roll), and beginner stunting.
  • Cheer at flag or 4th grade tackle football games (Saturday or Sunday) and participate in High School home games Trojan Tunnel and possible other school/town events
  • Instructors are volunteer high school demonstrators overseen by the team’s adult coaching staff
 
Registration
Teams and coaches will be organized in the spring.  Registrants after the deadline are not guaranteed placement on a team.
 
 
Practices and Games
  • Season:  after Labor Day – early November.
  • Practice:  one day per week (3:30 – 4:45pm) at Hurlbutt Elementary School
  • Games:   Saturday at WMS field for Flag or Saturday/Sunday WHS football stadium for 4th grade tackle (TBD)
  • Friday Night Lights:  Optional participation in the Trojans Tunnel at Home High School games and possible other school/town events
 
Uniforms and Costs
  • Your uniform, a vest and skirt, will be supplied by WTYF&C
  • When you pick up your uniform, you will be required to leave a $150 security deposit (check payable to WTYFC). 
  • At the end of the season when the WTYFC uniform has been returned, clean and undamaged, we will return your check.
  • Personal items to be purchased by athlete: hair bow ($15), white sneakers ($15-$35), white no-show socks ($3) crop top ($10), navy briefs ($10), and pom poms ($15)

Sideline Cheer (Grades 3 thru 8)
Overview
  • Perform sideline cheers at tackle football games on Saturday or Sunday. 
  • Strength training, conditioning and cardio
  • Improve cheer motions to ensure clean, crisp, sharp movements  
  • Two practices per week afterschool.  Tentative: Tuesday (cheers and dance) and Friday (tumbling)
  • Instructors are volunteer high school demonstrators overseen by the team’s adult coaching staff and professional tumbling instructors
 
Registration
Teams and coaches will be organized in the spring.  Team size will not exceed 15.  Registrants after the deadline are not guaranteed placement on a team.  Parents are encouraged to volunteer to coach a team or serve as team manager.
 
 
Practices, Games and Competitions
  • Pre-season practice:  August 25 5pm-7pm followed by a pep rally and August 28th - 31st 5pm – 7pm, WHS football stadium
  • Practices:  Practice two times per week for 1 hour beginning September 5th and going through early November. 
  • Tentative: Tuesdays and Fridays.  May change to accommodate coach’s schedule.
  • Games:  cheer at tackle football games on Saturday or Sunday.  Schedule is released by the league in late August/early September.  Travel is required to away games (Darien, Fairfield, New Canaan, Ridgefield, Easton or Wilton).
  • Friday Night Lights:  Optional participation in the Trojans Tunnel at Home High School games and may have the opportunity to perform.

  • Optional:  Cheer sweatshirts and sweat pants will be available to purchase.  Please consider these for colder weather as it provides uniformity on game days.
  • Uniform fitting for early registrations will be scheduled before the end of school in June so items ordered can be received before cheer season starts.

  • Weston Cheer is offering sideline cheer only.
